Christopher "Biggie" Wallace

Christopher Wallace

Born: 5/21/72 Birthplace: Brooklyn, New York

Christopher Wallace(a.k.a Biggie Smalls" or Notorious BIG) was born and raised in Brooklyn. He used to be a hustler, but he found other things to occupy his time. He rapped with many different artists such as Mary J. Blige and appeared in Supercat's "Dolly My Baby" video and he had his own single called "Party and Bull----", from the Who's The Man? soundtrack. In 1994 Biggie got lucky and released his first album "Ready To Die".

In 1990-1991 when he was hustling he also rapped. Wallace had a rep in the neighborhood for his rapping talents. Wallace used to hang out with the OGB crew, (the Old Gold Brothers) on Bedford Ave where he got his start. They weren't a rap crew, but apparently one of them had turntables in his basement, so they used to go and make tapes. The tapes ended up all over the neighborhood, but they were just for fun. With no intentions of making a record or grabbing a record deal, one of his tapes was passed on to Big Daddy Kane's DJ, Mister Cee, who lived in the neighborhood.

Everything took Wallace by surprise. In a few weeks he was in The Source on a compilation album and was going to get a deal with Uptown Records. Sean "Puffy" Combs, Uptowns National Director of A&R at the time, saw some talent in Wallace and took him in as family. Riding on his success with Mary J. Blige and Jodeci, the album was bound to be a success.

Puffy helped a lot with the A&R and there was a lot of stuff he made Wallace do over. When they finished the album, Puffy left Uptown records and started his own label, Bad Boy Records. Without Puffy, Uptown decided they didn't want to handle Wallace. So they dropped him, but Bad Boy picked up where Uptown left off.

Ready To Die took off and albums were sold in numbers, then Puffy and Wallace began to record Biggie's second album. Life After Death, a double LP.

Later, Biggie and Puffy were at a bar in N.Y. When the night ended. Both of them headed out to their cars and pulled out of the parking lot. Wallace was driving behind Puffy. They approached a red light and stopped. Puffy heard gun shots. He hopped out of his car and ran to Wallace's car. There, filled with bullets was Wallace lying still. He got rushed to the hospital, but it was too late. Christopher Wallace at the age of 23 was pronounced dead. He left behind 3 kids and a wife, Faith Evans.
